* The Bangor & Aroostook continued to expand, modestly, for another decade by way of the following subsidiaries: Fish River Railroad, Ashland to Fort Kent (1902); Northern Maine Seaport Railroad, South Lagrange to Searsport (1904); Schoodic Stream Railroad, main line to East Millinocket (1906); Medford Extension, South Lagrange to Packard via Medford (1907); St. John River Extension, Van Buren to St. Francis (1909-’10); Washburn Extension, Squa Pan to Stockholm, with branch from Mapleton to Presque Isle (1909-’10), and the extension to Van Buren Bridge (1915).

* I never asked, but I do not believe the annual In the Maine Woods is a heavy strain on the BAR treasury. It is filled with paid advertisements for everything from hotels and resorts to plumbing supplies, fishing tackle, and “the P-V Hatchet, the One Hunters Prefer.” This last a product of the old reliable Peavey Manufacturing Company, whose founder invented the tool that bears his name and is famous wherever logs roll on the landings or heave in the river.
